| customer review: I got this rolling pin to replace my old cylindrical pin, which had wobbly handles. I figured a pin that was made of a single piece of wood would be sturdier and easier to control.
| In practice tho, the steep taper makes it much more sensitive and more difficult to control, so it's actually harder to get an even thickness. The small diameter (less than 2 inches) doesn't help either. Maybe if you're working with very hard and difficult to shape dough this would be a good pin to use, but then I'd probably want something heavier. Overall it's a functional but awkward pin. Rolling Pin Ringsby Regency Wraps (RW1275) ![]() customer review: I bought these rolling pin rings for my wife, and didn't realize that they aren't supposed to "stretch" to fit a variety of rolling pins. Now, I have to find a proper size rolling pin to match the rings, since (of course) they don't fit the rolling pins she already has. Murphy's Law. | Oxo Good Grips Rolling Pinby OXO (73981) ![]() customer review: i have severe arthritis and using a rolling pin isn't easy. decided to give this a try not only because the description said it would protect my nuckles, but figured the ball bearings would be helpful. both features are grand, however there are a couple other things that make this "arthritis friendly". first is the weight ~ it takes very little effort to get the perfect round pie crust. secondly, the handles are a good size which makes it easy to hold, even if your fingers can no longer "make a fist". if you need a little extra help due to arthritis, this is a great find! | J.K. Loved it at first and then I noticed little slivers of "silver filings" in my sugar cookie dough! Finally I discovered it was coming from the rolling pin - I don't know what the surface is made of but I won't use it again. I threw out the dough and cookies and had to make new. I don't recommend it for this reason and rolling pins can be expensive - I'm going to look for a marble pin and invest in a good one this time. | French Rolling Pinby Ateco ![]() $6.95 customer review: I love the rollig pin it's easy to handle. I'm looking for more pins like this. | Deluxe Marble Rolling Pin with Hardwood Baseby Norpro ![]() $19.98 If you are serious about making pies and pastries this marble rolling pin is for you. When you make pies, pastries, and scones, you must keep the dough cold--cold enough that the butter in the dough does not melt and make things soggy. Butter is 15% water and when those nuggets of butter hit the hot oven, the water turns to steam creating the flakey, crumbly texture that makes pies and pastries memorable. A cold rolling pin helps. Marble is naturally cool. This is a big chunk of marble. (This assembly weighs nearly five pounds.) Put your rolling pin in the refrigerator to chill 30 minutes before beginning and it will remain cool for a long time. You'll have much longer to work with your dough before the butter melts and the dough becomes soggy. | Fiesta Products Traditional Rubber Handles Sil-pin Silicone Rolling Pin, Redby Fiesta Products (4807) ![]() $39.99 customer review: I was really optimistic about this product...but I found myself going back to my old wooden pin that this product SHOULD have way outclassed. Color-coded 6 piece package has 2 of each of the following thickness: 1/16" (2 mm), 1/8" (4 mm), 1/4" (6 mm). Place the same size strips on each side of the dough, roll the dough flat, over both strips at the same time. The dough will roll out to an even thickness. Perfect for all types of dough; cookie, pie, fondant, etc. A great tool! | Fiesta Products Baker's Style Sil-pin Silicone Rolling Pin, Navy Blueby Fiesta Products (4814) customer review: This is the best rolling pin I have ever owned. It is light weight and my dough does not stick to the rolling pin surface. I had so much fun making my cookies this year, as this rolling pin made the work much more enjoyable. It did take a long time to ship, but was well worth the wait. | Vic Firth MBLRP22 Marble Rolling Pin with Cinnabar Handlesby Vic Firth USA (MBLRP22) customer review: I ordered this for my husband, who needed a heavy rolling pin for making croissant. At first he loved it, it is nice & heavy, the marble keeps the dough cool. But now, after only 6 months, the paint is peeling off the handles where the marble rubs against them, and we have to pick red paint out of our dough. I have a call in to Vic Firth quality control to see what they will do for me. I would advise buying a different model that doesn't have painted handles. | | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
