  • customer review: My daughter requested a "red can opener" for Christmas this past year. Since Amazon buyers are always so very consistent to honestly review products purchased, Amazon's website was my first stop. I looked over all they featured and the West Bend 77204 was my pick due to the high ratings prior buyers gave it in regards to price, style, and performance. Well, I'm happy to report I "did good". This is a direct quote from my daughter..."I LOVE it and it is a really quality can opener."

    One-Touch Automatic Can Opener - White (29101)

by Harvest Trading Group (As Seen On TV)

    $19.99 $13.79
  • Opens cans of all sizes
  • Battery operated (Not Included)
  • Cuts from the side
  • Safe with no sharp edges. Stores conveniently in a drawer
  • FREE Bonus Gripmate mail in jar opener offer included.
  • customer review: I was referred to this product by someone who shares my problems with arthritis in my hands. Using usual kitchen appliances can be quite painful. This product does the whole job merely by sitting it on the can and pressing a button. As an added benefit, it opens from the side instead of the top, which leaves a smooth edge which is not sharp enough to cut skin. I love the freedom it has given me and certainly recommend it to others with hand problems.

Black & Decker JW200 Lids Off Jar Opener, White

    by Black & Decker (JW200)

    $49.99 $27.99
  • Electric jar opener that easily releases vacuum-sealed lids
  • Simple operation, adjustable height, and large release button
  • Ideal for anyone needing a stronger grip
  • Fits jars up to 4-1/2 inches in diameter and 8 inches high
  • Measures 8-1/2 inches wide by 7-3/4 inches deep by 10 inches high
  • customer review: The Black & Decker "Lids Off Jar Opener" JW200 is an excellent product.

The one that we recently purchase is to be given as a Christmas gift. We have personally owned and used a "Lids Off" model JW200 for several years now and have not encountered a screw on jar lid that it could not remove.

It is most simple to use: Assuming that the unit is plugged in - Simply raise the upper part of the unit, set the jar in place, lower the upper part onto the jar and push the go button. No other magic tools required, no red-faced exertion and no X-rated language or thoughts necessary. It would be most valuable to anyone who may have a physical handicap or simply does not have the strength necessary to grip and open jars by hand.

Interestingly, When we decided that we wanted to give one of these products as a gift, we were unable to find it in any of the local stores. My wife suggested that we try Amazon.com.....Great idea.Black & Decker JW200 Lids Off Jar Opener, White

KitchenAid CO Can Opener Stand Mixer Attachment

    by KitchenAid (CO)

    $49.99
  • Works with all KitchenAid household stand mixers
  • One metal piece, attaches easily to stand mixer motor
  • Magnet lifts lid away from can
  • customer review: I have now been thru two of these in three years. It is a waste of money as it has no durability. Two of these openers have failed after less than two years of use each, opening an average of 3 cans per week. When it works it is great, but after a while the mechanism deteriorates and becomes useless. KitchenAid was nice enough to replace the first one which had just gone out of warranty and now less than two years later the replacement has failed. After the first one failed I purchased the OXO Steel Can Opener (http://www.amazon.com/Oxo-58081-SteeL-Can-Opener/dp/B00004OCMM/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1222651468&sr=8-1)to use while my wife used the KitchenAid.

My OXO is going strong while the KitchenAid failed. If my OXO should ever fail, no problem, lifetime warranty; a phone call will get you a replacement.

Save your money and do not buy this opener.

  • customer review: I got this for Christmas yesterday and haven't used it yet. The one star is because I've spent too much time trying to get the sticker off. So, whether it's a good can opener has yet to be determined. Finally got the label and sticky glue off through trial and error. The label has a clear plastic cover, which came off after being soaked in liquid dish soap and kept moist with paper towels waiting for the soap to take effect. Same to get paper sticker off. But the glue was another story. Eventually, went on-line and found a solution that worked. Spread butter on the glue and leave for 15 minutes. Then rub off with paper towel. Sheesh!

  • Adjustable height
  • Opens jars, cans & bottles
  • Opens jars at the touch of a button

  • customer review: best can and jar opener on the market! opens cans of all sizes easily but best of all adjustes its height to handle most sizes of jars. Even opens vacume sealed jars that were refrigerated before opening; and you know what a pain that can be. I also like the way it compresses for ease of storage. It looks nice enough to keep on the kitchen counter. Clean up is easy, just remove the cutting edge from the unit and wash in the dishwasher. For the rest of unit, just wipe down with a damp soapy cloth or with a sanitizer wipe. Have recommended this to all my freinds. If you have poor hand strength or a physical impairment, this is a must.

Great buy and well priced. N.Walker P.S. I installed it toward the back of my cabinet not the front edge,so it is not in my way.

Cuisinart CCO-40BC Can Opener, Brushed Chrome

    by Cuisinart (CCO-40BC)

    $48 $19.95
  • Easy-to-use electric can opener with one-touch operation
  • Handles any standard size can
  • Power Pierce¿ blade; magnetic removable lid holder
  • Contemporary brushed chrome finish
  • 3-year limited warranty
  • customer review: Given that the purpose of a can opener is to open cans, it's astonishing to me how difficult it is to fit any can into the cuisinart so that the blade actually penetrates the can lid.

What you end up with, repeatedly, is a can firmly clamped into place by the magnet and spinning around merrily without the lid being cut open. At all. There's really nothing in the design that gives you a clue where to hold the can to remedy this reticence on the part of the cuisinart to fulfill its calling. You put the can under the blade and the magnet, push down until it clamps, and watch the can whirl aimlessly. The can opener is plastic, so I doubt you could use it to smash open a metal can.

I can't imagine that such a basic flaw in function could have passed unnoticed through any semblance of product testing.

So what you have is a fairly attractive, vaguely art deco (it looks streamlined) electric humming machine that might, on occasion, deign to separate a can lid from the can proper, with some judicious coaxing.

Hamilton Beach #76389 Black Open Mate Station

by HAMILTON BEACH BRANDS INC (76389)

    $28.02
  • Hamilton Beach #76389 Black Open Mate Station
  • HAMILTON BEACH BRANDS INC
  • customer review: Hamilton Beach #76389 Black Open Mate Station I like the can opener but I am real upset that there was a large sticker on the front of the can opener. Now that I have removed the sticker, I can't leave the can opener out because it looks terrible. it has ruined the nice black finish on the can opener. Why do they have to put a sticker on the front of the can opener that you can't even remove without ruining the finish???? I am so mad about this because now we have to stick it in a cupboard to hide it.

  • customer review: I received this as a Christmas gift and I am not really happy with it! I also have arthritis in my hands and thought this would be great! I have NEVER had as much trouble getting a label off of something as I did with this! And the finish is ruined on the front! I have tried to open a jar (couldn't be done because my hand needed to stretch further to get a grip on it! hurt my hand!!) I tried opening a simple can yesterday and after 5 minutes of trying to get the can into the blade I gave up and used my reliable hand can opener!
Wish I COULD take it back, but no receipt & hubby gave it to me!!
