![]() | | customer review: Remember, in a power outage, the manual can opener still works, heh. And they are quieter. This one is so much better than the cheap types I've subjected myself to in the past. This one opens cans when I squeeze and turn the finger-friendly handle - that's all I wanted, and that's what I got. Stainless and easy to clean. It looks nice enough to hang up. Very satisfied. | Oxo Good Grips Smooth Edge Can Openerby OXO (1049953) ![]() customer review: Yes, the product doesn't quite give you a hint that it is done making a 360 around the can, but I haven't experienced it once failing to open a can (if you do, may I suggest you ask for a replacement--Amazon will pay shipping both ways for defective items). I do find that I sometimes have to work the opener a bit, making sure that I have the correct seating (thus the minus one star), but I adore the little pliers on the opener's side. They help one to lift off the lid with ease. I loved it so much that I threw out my old style opener and had to buy another to open my tuna cans, so I can drain the liquids better with a decent lip. Other than that, I never whip the old-styled opener out to use. | Rösle Can Openerby Rosle USA (12751) ![]() customer review: Rösle Can Opener
| I purchased this can opener because I did not want sharp edges from opened cans around the kitchen or in the garbage. The Rosle can opener stopped opening cans after about seven months. My wife purchased a replacement from Target made by Chefmate for $9. It has performed superbly for two years. The Chefmate is also easier to operate ergonomically. Save money and frustation; don't buy this Rosle can opener. Amco Swing-A-Way 709BK Comfort Grip Can Opener, Blackby Amco (709BK) ![]() customer review: can opener only opens half the can- then skips and inch and opens the other half.leaving you with a mess, and its all size cans. DO NOT BUY-
| i will throw it away-its only ten dollars not worth sending back. Kuhn Rikon Safety Lid Lifter Deluxe Can Openerby Kuhn Rikon (2271) ![]() customer review: Can opener works really well once one learns the new way to attach the opener to the can. Draining excess liquids from cans also requires re-training as the opened lids fits fairly tight. Minor side note: Lids will no longer slide to the bottom of an empty can preventing can-in-can compactness in the recycle bin. | Oxo Good Grips Can Openerby OXO (28081) ![]() customer review: This product had noticeable rust after the first few weeks. After a few months, it was so rusty it was hard to open and close. The other day it literally broke in two from the rust. We have not had it for that long. This product is total garbage, unlike most Good Grips products (esp. the super potato peeler). | Amco Swing-A-Way 407WH Portable Can Opener, Whiteby Amco (407WH) ![]() customer review: This is the best can opener.
| Additional notes: Friends buy one of these just for your pet food. Can openers can collect a lot of bacteria. The best way to avoid this is to immediately rinse the 'cutter' with hot water. Over time, gunk can still build up behind the cutter. So I usually fill up a glass, to the brim, with SLIGHTLY soapy HOT water, then submerge the cutter and crank into the solution for an hour. This will allow any butter knife to scrape off the bacterial garden and prolong the usefulness of the can opener. I prefer this model over electric can openers. Kuhn Rikon Safety Lid Lifter Can Openerby Kuhn Rikon (2270) ![]() customer review: We've had one of these for years and just loved it. It is SO much better and cleaner than the old type. When my daughter and her husband needed one, we bought them one as well and they also really like it. It does take a few tries to learn how to use it but after you learn, it's no problem at all. The old type can opener gets dirty every time you open a can, and this on does not- that the best feature of all. | Pedrini Black & Satin Classic Can Openerby Pedrini (7033-815) ![]() customer review: The wheel with the blade broke off the first time I used it. Unfortunately I didn't use it until 4 days after my 'return window' at Amazon expired. | KitchenAid Jar Opener, Whiteby KitchenAid (KG116WH) ![]() customer review: My wife has trouble with some jars. Who doesn't. This one will handle most jobs and save a lot of grunting. Good price. Attractive design. And I can't fault it in any way for a kitchen tool. Why suffer, buy one and see for yourself, | Hoffritz Stainless-Steel Manual Can Openerby Hoffritz (HF85074) ![]() customer review: I was looking for an attractive can opener, that could be easily cleaned.
| Pros: Attractive design with a sharp blade that opens cans easily. Went through the dishwasher without a problem and came out shinny and clean. Con: The handle isn't padded. It's slightly uncomfortable when I have to grip the handles while opening a can. If I had joint or dexterity problems this would be a real issue. I have small hands, perhaps people with large hands don't have as much of a problem. I don't open many cans so I will continue to use it, but next time will look for an opener with a padded grip. Can Pop- Flip Tab Can Openerby Spring Mill Home Products (77015) ![]() customer review: I volunteer at functions where beer is ofter served and we have to pour the beer from the cans into plastic cups. This gadget saves time, effort, and fingernails! I can now pop open the tab faster than I could do it with my own fingernail, plus there is no wear and tear on my fingers! | Left-handed Can Opener, True Left Hand Kitchen Productby IVC $9.95 customer review: The fundamental problem with this product is that it is not sturdy enough to do the job. Instead of working easily, the two parts spread apart and the cutter doesn't completely cut into the lid. Result: can is not fully open. Heavier gauge metal in the two major parts would solve the problem for a few cents more per item. Tilting the handle down can help minimize the problem but it shouldn't take special skills or body English to operate a simple can opener. | Oxo Good Grips Locking Can Openerby OXO (30081) ![]() customer review: This has been my primary can opener for approximately 12 years. While I've been intending to replace it for most of that time, it has held up OK.
| Unfortunately, the locking mechanism left much to be desired. When locked, there was not enough pressure to actually cut cans without squeezing the handle anyway. The locking mechanism (which is just a flimsy piece of plastic) broke off after a few months. It wasn't really needed, but I would have preferred that it work. In terms of cutting cans, the particular one that I had would cut reliably and well if you had to know exactly how to hold it. You have to have the angle right, the squeeze pressure right, and be going at the right speed. I've personally not had problems cutting, but all of my roommates through the years have commented that they had problems with it. Overall it wasn't a bad can opener, but it wasn't perfect. Now that it has finally thoroughly gunked up in the way that can openers do, I will probably replace it with something different. It was good enough to keep it until the end, but it wasn't good enough to re-buy. Black & Decker Lids Off Automatic Jar Openerby Black & Decker (JW200) customer review: I bought this for my grandmother who has arthritis in her hands. My grandfather used to open everything for her, but he passed away last year. This jar opener has solved all of her jar-opening problems. She only has to put the jar in place and press a button. She is 85 years old and usually doesn't like to learn how to use new electric gadgets, but after I showed her how to use this one time she was able to use it. She said that it has opened every jar she has put in there with ease. I asked her to rate it and she gave it 5 stars. | Swing Away Wall Can Openerby Harold Imports (507W) ![]() $12.99 customer review: What more can be said to the title? Who needs a electric opener in the first place. It's off the counter, on the wall and requires little maintenance. | WMF Profi Plus Stainless Steel Can Openerby WMF (1871486030) ![]() customer review: I have chucked the much praised Swingaway which was rusty after ordering this one chosen for its rust resistence. The two handles are very comfortable in the hand. | Oxo Good Grips Jar Openerby OXO (21181) ![]() customer review: I've gone through two of these and won't purchase another. The first one broke after using it a three or four times, but since I like Oxo products in general, I assumed it just a fluke. The second one I simply threw away. As other reviewers have pointed out, it uses tiny, metal teeth to grip the lid, which slip and could conceivably cause injury. It was worthless, so I'm back to the old technique of using hot water on the lid and banging the sides with a spoon. Works better than Oxo, that's for sure. | Pampered Chef Smooth-edge Can Openerby Pampered Chef (2758) ![]() $18.5 customer review: When I first bought the Pampered Chef can opener, it took me a few days to learn how to use it. Never having attended a Pampered Chef party, I missed those demonstrations for mechanically challenged people such as I am.
| Then I finally caught on! This can opener turns the top of the can into a lid that can be used to cover food for storage in the can. Years ago, cans were not considered suitable for storage, but now many cans have a coating that makes food storage in them safe. Not long after I started using the Pampered Chef can opener, the wall unit came down. The top of it could go into the dishwasher, but it was difficult to remove and replace the part. Using a can opener over and over without cleaning it becomes nasty. Here is a can opener that can be washed each time it is used. Also I often cut my hands on cans with the old-style openers. I've never cut my hand using the Pampered Chef. Tossing the electric can opener for a sanitary, easy-to-use device is one way to live a little greener. The Pampered Chef can opener is very easy to use, and it can be cleaned thoroughly. I highly recommend the Pampered Chef can opener. Ring Pull - Can Openerby Spring Mill Home Products (80401-ip) ![]() customer review: I used to avoid cans with the pull tabs whenever I could (which is getting harder and harder all the time) because the tabs would snap off or it took too much effort to get the lid to come off... but not anymore. Now I have no trouble what so ever opening the ring pull top cans and I haven't had a single tab/ring break loose since I bought this wonderful little gadget. I can't believe how well it works. I bought several more for various family members. I also bought an extra for myself just in case the first one gets lost someday.
| Even if you don't have health issues that make it hard to open cans you will still find that this item makes your life a lot easier. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
